Gateway to Peace relies on the support of community members to keep its program going. We estimate that each Peace Museum event costs approximately $80.00 per event hour, which means that an eight hour (full-day) event will cost the Museum $640. However, our goal is to provide our program to schools and community organizations free of charge. We cannot do this without the help of generous individuals like you!

THE BASICS OF HOSTING A PEACE MUSEUM EVENT

The location of the Gateway to Peace Museum needs to be indoors, in a secured area with easy access and have multiple power outlets for the computers. Ideally it should all be set up in one room, but it can be set up in multiple rooms. It normally takes a minimum of 2,000 square feet of space to set up the entire project. The Peace Museum staff will normally arrive at your school the evening before an event to set up the activities.

The Museum works best if children arrive in comparable age groups such as Kindergarten, Primary, Junior or by grade level. However, the ages could be mixed if the “Peace Guide” feels they can handle the age differences and more time is allotted to each group.

Many organizations choose to hold an open house of some sort as part of their site visits. It is normally held at the close of your program after the children have been through all of the sections of the museum. An open house provides the children with an opportunity to become the “Peace Guides” and teach the adults what they learned as well as how to perform the activities. It is an excellent, fun learning time for both adults and children.

The following are actual schedules that have been used at various schools. For your particular school, you will need to take into consideration the start and end times of your school day, lunch periods and any required classes. The Gateway to Peace Museum experience could take the place of Gym and/or Art since the museum includes physically active learning centers and various types of crafts.

Sample School Schedule 1 - Large Schools, 2 days

This is designed for larger schools with 400+ students. All children in the same grade participate at the same time for 50 minutes each, so there are 200 children participating each day. We ask that schools include a 10-minute break between each session for cleanup and to switch out grade levels. Please include a lunch break in your schedule.

Sample School Schedule 2 - Average School, 1 day

We consider this schedule to be ideal for average size schools (150-350 children). It works well for volunteers and for children because it provides plenty of time to participate in more of the learning centers. Most grade levels will arrive one at a time and have 70 minutes each in the Museum. With this schedule and a large room (such as a gym), we could easily accommodate three to four classes of the same grade at the same time, as long as enough volunteers are available.

7:30 AM - 8:30 AM Volunteer Training

8:30 AM - 9:40 AM Session 1

9:50 AM - 11:00 AM Session 2

1:00 PM - 2:10 PM Session 4

2:20 PM - 3:30 PM Session 5

Sample School Schedule 3 - Average School, 1 day, Shorter Sessions

This is also a great schedule for average size schools. Ideally, there will be two to three classrooms in most of the 50 minute sessions, or approximately 40-60 children at a time.

7:45 AM - 8:45 AM Volunteer Training

8:45 AM - 9:35 AM Session 1

12:05 PM - 12:55 PM Session 4

1:05 PM - 1:55 PM Session 5
